English Guest

Dear Guest,

  you're welcome in Mos Maiorum Apartments! Our structure is located in Gallipoli and Alezio (Salento, Apulia, southern Italy), a really cute town only 2,5 miles far from Gallipoli, that in Greek means "Beautiful city".
  Salento is known worldwide for its warm sun and for its clean sea, and Gallipoli is one of the main Italian tourist destinations.

THE APARTMENTS
We rent three different apartments. One of that, called "Gabbiano", is located in Gallipoli's downtown. The other two are in Alezio and has vaulted ceilings and terracotta floors. We are talking about Cerere and Bacco apartments.

Gabbiano (from the italian "Seagull") is a spacious apartment on the third floor of a quiet building, with an amazing view of the port of Gallipoli. It's situated in a side street of Corso Roma , the main shopping street of Gallipoli . It's suitable for 4 persons, and consists of 2 bedrooms (one with 2 single beds, and one with 1 double bed ), 2 bathrooms with showers, a useful kitchen, a living room and a spacious balcony where you can enjoy the beautiful sunsets over the sea, or regenerating with airy breakfast.

 (in the Italian section "appart. Gabbiano" are available more photos)

We offer also two suites recently renovated derived from an ancient palace in the center of the town of Alezio. Despite being in a central location, the area is very quiet and suitable for relaxation and Alezio garantees peace, differently from the more chaotic Gallipoli.

Cerere (it means Ceres, goddess of agriculture, grain crops, fertility and motherly relationships) is composed of an entrance hall/kitchen, a bedroom, a bathroom with shower and a garden with orange trees. It can accommodate up to a maximum of 3 people
 (in the Italian section "appart. Cerere" are available more photos)

 Bacco (the god of wine and agriculture) is an open space suite renovated in the 2012.
It consists of 1 entrace hall, 2 bathrooms (one with shower and bath), 1 kitchen, 2 sleeping areas, 1 large living room. This apartment was formerly used as a mill for crashing olives and grapes, infact it's possible to observe the ancient millstones on the floor and sumps. It can accommodate up to a maximum of 4 people.

HISTORY OF SALENTO COUNTRYSIDE
   Alezio and Gallipoli have a really old History, that probably starts from the foundation made by Idomeneus of Crete, and continuing with the occupations of Messapi people (VIII century a.c.), who sided Taranto and Pyrrhus in his wars against Anciet Rome (280 a.c. - Erodoto talks about it and in Alezio are located archeological evidence of this).
   After the defeat, Rome conquered the territories of Salento ("Sale" means "Salt", to remember the relationship of this land with the sea) of which we have evidence of Cicero (Epistulae ad Familiares) and Virgil,  and consequently  the occupations of the Romans was followed by Byzantine, Lombard, Saracen, Swabians and Angevins.

WHAT TO SEE IN GALLIPOLI
- The old town: let's lose yourself in the really beautiful narrow streets!
- The sea: you can go on one of the stunning beaches (you have to see La Purità beach), or use a boat to have a ride on the beautiful Ionic Sea of Gallipoli;
